Travel Insurance Canada and OHIPAs of October 1, 2019, OHIP will no longer provide coverage for claims made outside of Ontario. In the past, OHIP would reimburse funds Ontario Residents, and Ontario Travel Insurance companies, up to the amount that would normally recieve if the health service is to be provided in the province. As this amount is usually less if the claim from the USA or abroad, and there is an administrative cost, the Ontario Government has opted to cease this coverage.

As this has become well know, the full cost for Health Services outside of the province will fall back on the Ontario Resident. Thus the need for Travel Insurance and Inter-Provincial Health Coverage.
The average cost for an ER visit in the USA is $1200.00+, and in other Provinces, it is $250+. As a result of this provincial policy change, it is imperative that all travelling residents obtain travel insurance. |
